Flood Education & Safety Is Paramount
Taking the time to educate policyholders on flood safety can help them be prepared before, during and after a flood. With rainy season quickly approaching here on the Treasure Coast, we wanted to share a few safety guidelines so you can help make sure your clients have a plan before, during and after a flood.

before
- Flood Watch / Flash Flood Watch
Flooding is possible. This is normally issued when conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur.
- Get your emergency radio
- Figure out where higher ground is
- Build or restock your emergency preparedness kit
- Bring outdoor furniture inside and take valuables up to the highest level of the structure
- Disconnect electrical applicances

During
- Flood Warning / Flash Flood Warning
Flooding is occurring or will occur soon. If told to evacuate, do so immediately
- Get to higher ground
- Avoid or walking or driving through flood waters.

After
Return home only when authorities indicate it is safe. Avoid floodwaters and moving water — stay away from and report downed power lines.
- Do no attempt to drive through areas that are still flooded
- Flood waters can be electrically charged or contain harmful chemicals
- Photograph damage to the property
